From: Elizabeth Abele <eabele@astro.ocis.temple.edu> Date: Thursday, 20 Apr 2000 09:13:52 -0400 (EDT) Subject: CFP: Shakespeare in Popular Culture (5/22; 11/3-5) Call for Papers Shakespeare in Popular Culture an Area of Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association Albany, NY November 3-5, 2000 This will be the fifth year that "Shakespeare in Popular Culture" has appeared as part of the annual Mid-Atlantic P/ACA documenting and examining the Bard's place in contemporary culture, particularly American Culture. Abstracts are preferred that examine more than one text adn/or examine Shakespop in relation to the culture as a whole. In addition to film, these panels are interested in Shakespeare references/adaptations in novels, plays, music, comics, television, advertising. Papers may examine how the proliferation of a populist Shakespeare affects the classroom. Send an abstract (100-250 words) by May 22 to: Elizabeth Abele <eabele@astro.ocis.temple.edu> Please include: title, academic affiliation, email and snail mail. Shakespop abstracts also accepted for the national Popular Culture /American Culture Association meeting in Philadelphia, April 11-14, 2001. Deadline Sept. 15.
