Indeed, although Friel seems overly sympathetic to the view that the
authentic Irish place names are bogus.

The effort to eliminate the Irish language and symbols is ongoing. It is
illegal to fly the Irish tricolour flag anywhere in the British-occupied
northern Irish statelet. It is also contempt of court to speak Irish in
a British court of law in Ireland. (Speakers of all languages but Irish
are entitled to the use of a state-paid interpreter.)
