Re: John Briggs' question about when the Whitehall Cockpit was first
used for plays: Andrew Gurr's Shakespearean Stage (3rd ed.) says that
plays began there in 1610 (p.164), which would be way too late for the
inaugural performance of H5 and its reference to "this cockpit."

The old (by 1605) Curtain, however, seems to have been frequently used
for entertainments besides playing (see Gurr p.120), perhaps including
cockfighting.
