This isn't the "Moliere" play that the RSC did is it? With Tony Sher as
Moliere in Bulgakov's play? It is available on tape.

 You are speaking of Teatre du Soleil's Ariane Mnouchkine's series
Moliere. There was also an abbreviated version that played in theaters
in the 80s.

Very memorable. Really great. Should be available if it is not.

And incidentally, are any of her Shakespeare productions (or English
language documentries about them) available on video?

I too remember seeing this series but I do not remember the details. The
multi-part bio/fiction indeed appeared on PBS and probably on
Masterpiece Theatre. As for the date, it had to be at least fifteen
years and more likely twenty.
