SHAKSPER 2000: Pop Culture Uses Question
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@ws.bowiestate.edu) Date: 03/01/00
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 11.0421 Wednesday, 1 March 2000. From: Jan Strim <jstirm@uwec.edu> Date: Monday, 28 Feb 2000 11:35:20 -0600 Subject: Pop Culture Uses Question Hi SHAKSPERians, I have a (undergrad) student who's interested in working on the uses of Shakespeare in Sandman, a graphic novel series. I've seen lots of references recently to Shakespeare in popular culture, but would really like help in steering this student to some theoretical thinking about what it means to use Shakespeare in works such as Sandman. (Confession up front: I know nothing about Sandman, though my student has promised to lend me a volume or two so I can get an idea of what he's after). Thanks in advance for your help, Jan Stirm [Editor's Note: There have been past discussion on SHAKSPER regarding the Sandman series to which I contributed. They can be located with the SEARCH command. I envy your student. The series is a rich trove of Shakespearean treasures ready to be mined. I only wish that I had the time to do it myself. --Hardy]
