From: Jill Walker <jill.walker@uib.no> Date: Monday, 28 Feb 2000 17:58:30 +0100 Subject: 11.0355 A Hypertext Model Comment: Re: SHK 11.0355 A Hypertext Model We've attempted a hypertextual edition of A Midsummer Night's Dream at http://cmc.uib.no/dream - follow the link to text&commentary. A major motivation behind this project was to use hypertextual links to weave commentary on the play through the original text. We wanted to allow the reader to shift focus from text to commentary if she liked, or vice versa, and therefore we have provided links between related comments. This edition, if it can be called that, refers to a lot of academic literature on MND and does not attempt to explain words in the play or simplify it. Instead we wished find ways to make it easier for advanced students or researchers to find connections between work already done on the play. The edition can hardly be called complete. There's a lot in there, but many more perspectives and cross-links could be added. The interface could be improved. It would be great to be able to include images and texts, but we didn't want to get into copyright problems. Ideally I would like to see something like this that was user-extendable. I think that sharing the connections, the links, we've made between essays, texts, opinions would be extremely useful for all of us. I'd be glad to hear any comments on the project.
