From: Laura Blankenship <blanken@comp.uark.edu> Date: Friday, 25 Feb 2000 15:11:55 -0600 Subject: 2 Henry 4 Question At the end of 2 Henry 4, when Hal dismisses Falstaff, he says something to the effect of "from my other self I turn." (don't have the text here). This seems to be an almost direct quote from Queen Elizabeth's poem "On Monsieur's Departure." The sixth line reads, "Since from myself another self I turned." Is there any connection here? It seems that Shakespeare might be making a connection between Hal and the Queen in a very direct way. Would Shakespeare have read this poem? Thanks for your comments, Laura Blankenship University of Arkansas
