SHAKSPER 1999: Shameless Advertizement
From: Hardy M. Cook (editor@ws.bowiestate.edu) Date: 12/14/99
The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 10.2200 Tuesday, 14 December 1999. From: Tracy Blackburn <info@hooplapr.com> Date: Thursday, 9 Dec 1999 11:35:37 -0600 Subject: "Sonnet" - A new age/spoken word cd featuring Shakespeare's work Dear Dr. Cook, Tracy from HoopLA Media & Public Relations here. I came across your name and email on the Shakespeare on the Internet website and thought I'd drop you a line and ask for your help as a Shakespearen scholar and obvious aficionado. Hope you don't mind the unsolicited intrusion! HoopLA is in the preliminary planning stages for a campaign to promote an exciting new musical project. "Sonnet", by the group Oberon, is a collection of original music inspired by the poetry of William Shakespeare. Oberon consists of vocalist Felicia Sorenson, woodwind virtuoso Paul McCandless and percussionist Sammy Figeruoa. Felicia Sorenson penned original lyrics inspired by the selected sonnets for five of the album's songs; other songs feature readings performed by actors from The Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. I'm trying to put together a list of publications (both traditional and online) that would be interested in such an eclectic project. I'm focusing on New Age, Shakespearean, Ren Faire, Theater and Teacher's publications, but for all I know I'm barking up the wrong trees. From the description on the Shakespeare On The Internet site, it seems that the SHAKSPER listserv reaches the exact audience I'm trying to reach. If I were to add you to our servicing list, would you be willing to write a review of the project for your lists? If not, would you be able (and willing) to direct me toward publications that reach the Shakespeare enthusiast and are more entertainment-oriented than scholarly? HoopLA represents a number of artists in many diverse genres of music, but this is our first new age/literary/spoken word project and we are starting our new database from scratch. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your assistance, Dr. Cook. I look forward to hearing from you!
