Subject:        "Thrice blessed"

In MND (1.1.74), Theseus, commenting on "nuns," says:

        Thrice blessed they that master so their blood
        To undergo such maiden pilgrimage;

But why "thrice"? Is it just a meaningless intensive or does it have
some other reference?
