Stephanie Hughes's friend with questions about poetry might want to cite
_The Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry & Poetics_ (Preminger, Warnke, and
Hardison) or A Prosody Handbook (Shapiro & Beum) or Poetic Meter &
Poetic Form by Paul Fussell.

Although there would be any number of places to look for such
information in general terms, the place that I would send him is George
T. Wright's book Shakespeare's Metrical Art. This is a lucidly written
and thorough study of prosody and various poetic structures. I wonder
why this book is not required reading for graduate students studying
Shakespeare (or poetry in general).
