The Shakespeare Conference: SHK 9.1237 Friday, 4 December 1998. From: Barbara R> Hume <Barbara@techvoice.com> Date: Thursday, 03 Dec 1998 12:55:20 -0700 Subject: 9.1228 Re: Shakespeare and Pop Culture Comment: Re: SHK 9.1228 Re: Shakespeare and Pop Culture >> According to the review, the film >>concludes with Shatner singing "one of the most original Shakespeare >>homages ever offered." There are quite a few references to Shakespeare in Star Trek. In ST4, for example, McCoy replied to a comment of Spock's, "Angels and ministers of grace defend us." Spock immediately identified the quote in his usual pedantic fashion. I was also amused by the reference to Jacquelline Suzanne and Harold Robbins as "the greats" of the late twentieth century. BTW, the 1956 SF movie Forbidden Planet is said to be a version of _The Tempest_. Oh! Did anyone see the hilarious version of Taming of the Shrew they did on Moonlighting? Barbara Hume
