Lovely. Thank you. Reminded me of an undergraduate last year who wrote of Abbie
in DESIRE UNDER THE ELUMS [I shouldn't have pronounced it that way in that
class. . .] that "Abbie is completely self-servicing".

Yes, I have come across the ur-ur text of "Banana Hamlet"! Apparently, Auphelia
is a latent Lisbon, seeking a surragit mother in Gertrude. Since the latter is
attached to the control freak, Clodias, the result in pandemonier.

Yes, students can make wonderful blunders in that odd little medium of textual
transmission and transformation that we in academia call a final examination.
I wonder why Ron Dwelle, who happily shared these little rhinestones with us,
bothered to include a telling [sic] along the way.  Surely we were not about
to attribute an error to his transcriptions, were we?
 
By the way, where did Gertrude's name come from?  And why do we spell Hamlet
or Shakespeare the way we do?  Perhaps there are some clues in the
pre-ur-Hamlet that we may have overlooked.  Clues about something....
