Subject: *Romeo and Juliet* and Dracula

I should like to comment on Mary Jane Miller's query re Shakespeare and vampire
lore. My knowledge of vampire legend in Elizabethan England is non-existent,
though I am well versed in vampire literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
I'd be interested in knowing whether there were any vampire legends making the
rounds in Shakespeare's time. There are certainlt many "vampiric" images in the
plays, especially *Julius Caesar* and *Macbeth*. I have taken special notice of
them this term as I am teaching both plays in a Shakespeare course and teaching
*Dracula* in another course.
