Shakespeare Electronic Conference, Vol. 3, No. 124. Saturday, 6 June 1992. From: Lars Engle <ENGL_LE@vax1.utulsa.edu> Date: Saturday, June 6, 1992, 10:27:14 -0500 (CDT) Subject: 3.0120 RE: SHK 3.0119 Branagh *Henry V* Comment: RE: SHK 3.0120 RE: SHK 3.0119 Branagh *Henry V* In response to the question about whether there are convincing and powerful versions of Shakespeare plays on film or video, let me cite two that seem pretty wonderful to me: Moshinsky's *All's Well* in the BBC Shakespeare and Janet Suzman's video version of *Othello* at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg. Moshinsky's showed me that *All's Well* is probably the Shakespearean comedy closest to my sentiments about social flexibility and distributions of energy and aggressivity across gender lines -- for me, it's a play tailored to the interests of our moment, and I certainly didn't think that before I viewed that video.
