	In reply to Steve Urkowitz's query, I'm glad to report that the
Professional Theatre Training Program at Delaware has produced two plays,
The Tempest and King Lear, both of which have been recorded on videotape.
I don't know when or if they will be made available for purchase, but if
there is any demand for them, I'll look into the matter.
 
	Meanwhile, my wife Marcia and I are trying to solve at least part
of the problem Steve raises concerning available videotapes. For a new
interactive videodisc project we will need permission to use small segments
of other existing videotapes, such as the Zeffirelli Romeo and Juliet or
the Kozintsev King Lear. If anyone can direct us to whom and how permissions
can be obtained, we'd be most grateful.

You might look at the British magazine, SHAKESPEARE AND SCHOOLS, published by
the Cambridge Institute of Education, Shaftsbury Rd, Cambridge CB2 2BX.
It has many interesting reports of lively school activities, productions,
ways of getting at texts and generating rich responses to them.  Also, just
out is the "Cambridge School Shakespeare" edition of MND, under the general
editorship of Rex Gibson, the energy behind the SHAKESPEARE AND SCHOOLS
project.  On facing pages are the play text and classroom activities drawn
from the text.  The work suggested resembles the kinds of preparatory
exploration that Cecily Berry developed for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
And over the last few decades it has strongly influenced and enlivened
primary and secondary education in England.  Through workshops at the Folger,
and through other programs, these spirits have been tickling at least some
areas in the US.  The major lesson from all these folks is to raise your
expectations and pour in light rather than reduce anything for younger
audiences.  Good luck!

It is a children's performance of MSND on midsummer night that reawakens
the magical world in Kipling's's classic, _Puck of Pook's Hill_.  I don't
know if that helps at all, but it's a splendid book,  -- Kevin Berland
