The multiple Ariels are not new. RSC did it about ten years ago in the
production that starred Derek Jacobi as Prospero.  A great show, even if
the set was decorated with uncalled for rigging and masts (they cut the
relevant line in the text as a result, i.e. the one about being set adrift
in a leaky butt).
